More than 1000 people have starved to death, with many more on the verge. Karamoja is one of the poorest regions in Uganda with a poverty rate of 66%, more than three times the national poverty rate.

Causes of Hunger in Karamoja.
The situation in Karamoja is due to, low crop yields as the major cause of famine has been compounded with locust invasion followed by prolonged drought and floods, Covid-19 disruptions and an explosion of insecurity reportedly fanned by cattle rustlers.
Malnutrition in Karamoja is also affecting children. Children are stunted in their growth because they do not eat enough nutritious food. Stunting can have a dangerous effect on the development of children and can even influence their behaviors as they grow older
Karamoja Region has nine districts of; Abim, Amudat, Kaabong, Karenga, Kotido, Moroto, Nabilatuk, Nakapiripit and Napak. More than half a million people are going hungry in Karamoja.
